The ONE Learning Experience to Deliver in 2024
Learning Experiences cost money and take time. If you're a leader looking to maximize your Return on Experience (ROE), focus on delivering the ONE learning experience that forms the basis for your organizational capacity-building efforts: THINKING. Considering how many training programs exist on specific topics, I know that sounds bold. Am I saying no other training matters except for programs that help teams, staff, and communities learn to think? In many cases, at least at given times in organizational growth cycles, yes.
Imagine you lead a community of organizations striving to solve a complex challenge that's impacting your region. You've been at it for a few years, making significant strides. But now, the pace is slowing, conflicts are on the rise, and the problem persists, or worse, is escalating. You've invested in "How To" training, brought in facilitators, and attended conferences. You've put in time and money. But now, it's time to invest in YOU!
Someone's or some group's thinking forms the basis for all operational and governance models, development approaches and life cycles, decision-making matrices, and community-building techniques. While adopting existing approaches can make sense in the early stages of building solutions, the need for a new way of thinking becomes urgent as progress begins to slow. This is a responsibility we must all take on, and with more money and more time on the table, a new way of thinking must emerge to save the effort.
Embarking on a learning experience that focuses on developing thinking is a commitment to transformation. Whether it's for yourself, your team, your organization, your community, or a combination, this commitment to THINKING is a game-changer. It empowers us to design processes that cater to our unique needs, adapt existing models to better align with our cultures and goals, and SEE (recognize) aspects of our working relationships and the world around us that were previously invisible. Thinking is the key to overcoming plateaus and people problems, enabling us to advance problem-solving and opportunity launches.
Practicing thinking is not just about brainstorming in a room. It's about training and practicing specific thinking patterns in a safe learning environment. This practical approach is critical to building thinking skills that can be applied in real-world situations.
Before you set aside 2024 plans, consider providing your organization or community with a learning experience that will prepare it for a successful 2025.
