Are Zoom’s AI Tools Poised to Hurt Human Interaction?

The MYNDDSET team is skilled in helping people build deep connections. We dive into the most subtle aspects of our client’s experiences through purposeful design, development, and delivery efforts. With a high level of attention to body language, asking great questions, listening, documenting ideas and more, I worry that Zoom’s entry into AI further reinforces poor delivery and engagement practices. If you’re not familiar with Zoom’s developing toolset, you can learn more on the Zoom’s Smart AI Assistant webpage. I’m in no way ”anti” AI. I use AI to provide new perspectives on projects. Even before Zoom’s deep dive into AI, the platform put true human interaction as risk. Zooming became an sin as more “meetings” took place to deliver information that could have been distributed in written documents or recorded media. Poor meeting practices such as lecturing, allowing distracting side chats, and slide-deck centered presentations shifted to Zoom and became even WORSE. So what has Zoom done? They created tools to encourage these practices.

Zoom’s AI tools center around consumption, drafting summaries, and boiling content down to smaller chunks. These tools can support disengaged attendees who plan to catch up later. Presenters can see the tools as a fallback to presenting clear topic conversation and getting attendees to participate. And lastly, AI summaries may not present accurate versions of vital information.
